What is ontechmail?
ontechmail is a business email and hosting platform built by Ontech Solutions in Lusaka. It hosts mailboxes on your own domain with webmail, IMAP, SMTP, a mobile app and a REST API, and can also host your DNS and website.
How much does ontechmail cost?
The Starter plan is free: one domain, up to three mailboxes plus a catch-all, webmail, IMAP and the REST API. Business and Enterprise plans add more domains, mailboxes and storage and are priced on request from info@ontech.co.zm.
How do I set up email on my domain?
Sign up with your domain and an admin address. ontechmail creates the workspace, a catch-all mailbox and a DKIM key, then shows the MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records to publish at your registrar. Once the MX record points at ontechmail the domain switches on automatically.
Can I bring my existing domain and keep my current email until I am ready?
Yes. Nothing changes at your current provider until you switch the MX record, so you can create mailboxes and test first.
Which mail apps work with ontechmail?
Any IMAP client: Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, Gmail's mail-fetch feature over POP3, and phone mail apps. Incoming is IMAP on port 993, outgoing is SMTP on port 465 or 587, both with TLS.
Is there a mobile app?
Yes. OMail is available for Android on Google Play and for iPhone on the App Store, with QR sign-in from webmail so you never type the password on the phone.
How is my mailbox protected?
TLS on every connection, bcrypt-hashed passwords, optional two-factor authentication with recovery codes, DKIM-signed sending, spam scoring on delivery, sandboxed rendering of HTML mail and remote images blocked until you choose to load them.
Where is my data stored?
On the hosted service, on Ontech-operated infrastructure in Zambia. Organisations that require full control can run the same platform self-hosted, including air-gapped.
Can I run ontechmail on my own servers?
Yes. The platform is deployable on your own infrastructure, on-premise or air-gapped, with a tunnel-based relay available where inbound port 25 is blocked.
Does ontechmail have an API?
Yes. A REST API over HTTPS covers authentication, mailboxes, sending with attachments, search, folders, contacts and DNS records. See the developers page for examples.
Can I send email from my application or scripts?
Yes, either through the REST API or through authenticated SMTP submission on port 465 or 587 using a mailbox's credentials.
What is the maximum attachment size?
Roughly 50 MB per message after encoding.
